Sheath knife

I have been looking for a knife that suits me for a while now and I finally found it.  One of my friends makes knives and I bought this one from him, he does a really good job.  I was looking for a smallish fixed blade knife that could do all the jobs I needed it to, so I just need to carry one.

I split some wood with it, it worked great.

Here is a tinder or fuzz stick I cut.

I cut some green hack berry.

This is the sheath I made for it. It is small enough that I hardly notice it when it's on my belt but large enough that I think I can do most any chore.  I still need to try it out on other things but it has done well.

Clouds

I love to take pictures of clouds, and here lately there has been lots of large thunderheads. Clouds often make me think of God they are so huge and powerful looking, and God is the one who created them and gave the storms their power and beauty.

White-tail doe

This nice little doe did not seem to care if we were close by or not. We saw her along side our neighbors lane. Usually they will bound off at least a little ways when you get this close, but not this one.

She seemed to be a fairly young deer. She was in no hurry to leave, and maybe just a bit curious. The white-tail deer (Odocoileus Virginianus) is one of my favorite animals. I enjoy hunting them and look forward to the hunting season every fall, but I also enjoy watching them and observing their habits. They are all over the place where we live and are a very common sight, but this was still very unusual.

Camping Gear

Here is some of my camping gear that I use.  I got the small green backpack recently, It is African I think, and It is rather small.  I like that it is small because it is easy to get through the woods, and it keeps it's shape very well.  I really like a backpack that is slightly rigid and holds its shape.  Another thing I like is when it is packed up it keeps the weight in line with may body so it does not throw me off balance.  It also has two small pockets on the side in which I can fit quite a bit of things.  I have taken this backpack on an overnight backpacking trip and it held every thing very well.

The olive drab wool blanket is my bedroll and it fits perfectly on top of the small backpack. Then I strap another bedroll on the bottom of the pack, this bedroll consists of a tarp for my shelter a flannel sheet and another small blanket. Also in the pic is my leather shirt and moccasins, my belt and pouches, bayonet, and canteen

Here is how the bed rolls look. I also have one of my quivers strapped to it.

In this picture I have the bayonet on the side, all I have to do is reach over my shoulder and there it is!

This picture is kinda blurry but It gives you an Idea of the size of the whole thing.

I'm wearing my army belt and pouches in these two pictures, they contain matches, small cord, pencil and paper, and glow stick.  I also have another pouch that contains a first aid kit, but since I had another first aid kit in my backpack I did not have that one on.  The two side pockets on the backpack contain things I might need to get at real fast.  Here is a list of things in the outer pockets on this
particular hike.

First aid kit.

Poncho.

Emergency blanket.

A snack.

Flashlight

It turns out that it started to rain and I had to use my poncho, thankfully I was able to get to it easily, my brother had trouble finding his and it took longer to dig through his pack and find it.  That is why it is good to put things that you might need in a hurry where you can get to  them.

wood spoons

I have been making wooden spoons for a while now. I make them mostly out of Osage, Walnut, Cherry, and Cedar. Here they are.

A large Osage spoon and two spatulas.

slotted spoon.

This spoon I made out of purpleheart wood, a very tough wood.

Here is a walnut bowl and two cherry spoons.

I do the designs with a wood burner. I have sold many of these spoons, I sell the large for 20 dollars, the medium for 15 and, and the small one for 10. Each one differs from the next.
